Finding a House
When Should I Start Looking?
It's best to begin the process six to eight weeks before starting school. This allows you time to work with your admissions representative, use suggestions from our office, meet potential roommates, and find a place that best suits your needs. Apartment managers often don't know upcoming availability until a month or so in advance.
Location
We encourage you to find housing next to the school or within a 30-minute commute (by bus, by MAX, or by car if you're bringing one). Most Western Culinary Institute students live within 30 minutes of the school. We also try to suggest housing complexes recommended by current or former students.
How Do I Find a Roommate?
This process generally begins after a student is completely packaged with financial aid and about four to six weeks prior to starting school. We can introduce you to another student looking for a roommate, often someone in your same program with similar hours.
It is your responsibility to arrange to meet or speak with this suggested roommate and decide which housing option will be best for both of you. You should then put in an application for your top apartment choice together.
Once you are both accepted, ask the manager to hold the apartment for you. This may require a deposit, but it will ensure your living arrangements.
